Inviting Rangers for accountability unconstitutional, claims Nisar
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday said it was against the law and the Constitution to invite the paramilitary Rangers for accountability.
In a statement, the minister said it was quite astonishing that the leader of a political party was demanding accountability through the Rangers.
He said every citizen had the right to freedom of thought and expression but it should be within the ambit of law and the Constitution.
He said all Pakistanis acknowledged the performance and sacrifices of the Pakistan Army under the dynamic leadership of army chief General Raheel Sharif.
“The Pakistan Army has been getting the highest accolades for performing their duties efficiently assigned by the Constitution and the law of the land.”
The minister said making such demands to the army and Rangers for political point scoring could not only make these national institutions controversial but also impair the actual purpose of the Karachi operation against criminals.
He said it was unfortunate and inappropriate to politicise the role and performance of the army and Rangers by issuing such political statements.
“It is an unwise act on the part of a political leader by involving the state institutions for political gains. It is against the democratic norms,” he added.
Nisar said the politics of allegations was easy but it was difficult to perform up to the mark and find out solutions to problems.
The minister said today’s Pakistan was far better than that of 2013, adding that not only Karachi was returning to normalcy but also the whole law and order situation in the country was improving.
