Mr. Arif Ahmed Khan assumed charge as Secretary, Ministry of Interior on 12th February, 2016. A member of the Pakistan Administrative Services with more than 30 years experience in Public Administration, he has served with the federal and provincial governments in important positions. Before joining this Ministry, his previous assignments with the Federal Government were Secretary, Ministry of Climate Change and Additional Secretary(Cabinet). Mr. Khan holds a Masters in Public Policy and Public Administration from Concordia University, Montreal.
Mr. Khan has also served as Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department, Government of Sindh. Prior to that, he was Home Secretary and Finance Secretary with the Government of Sindh. In addition, he remained Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner in various districts of Sindh.
From 2001 to 2004 he was posted as Consul General and Trade Commissioner of Pakistan in Montreal, Canada and later as Programme Coordinator for International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva. He has represented Pakistan in several international conferences on diverse subjects, particularly environment and climate
He is married and has three children.
